Setup - Export
The most used section is Mail.dat Export Settings, so instead of describing the screen in order, we will jump to this area first. It is important set up for users of PostalOne! and/or if you need to send Mail.dats to someone after you have made changes.
To access the Setup screen, from DAT-MAIL main menu go to File > Program Settings > Program Setup, then click on the Export tab.
Mail.dat Export Settings
Default Export Directory: This is for Mail.dats being exported for internal use or to send to another Company.
Do not use mapped drives, since DAT-MAIL runs as a service, you need to use a UNC path.
Auto-calculate CSM gross weight: Window Book recommends selecting this option, if you are sending your files to a logistics Company or printing 8125s. As you export the file, the program will determine based on the tiers set in Container Tare Weights whether the containers reflect the accurate gross weight.
Export using Historical Job ID: A large number of our customers use this option because either a logistics Company requires a specific job id, instead of the auto generated Job IDs from DAT-MAIL or it is not unusual for information to change at the last minute, so you cancel the job on PostalOne! and resubmit with a new Job ID. If you want control of the Job ID, then select this option.
Do not Export UPA: this is enabled by default. Please refer to the PostalOne! Mail.dat Technical Specification for more information - https://postalpro.usps.com/mailing/techspecs before enabling.
Spoilage PostalOne! Export Default:
-
Use either W - Wasted piece, PostalOne! will adjust or S - Shortage, PostalOne! will adjust if submitting the Mail.dat to PostalOne! depending on whether reflecting spoilage or shortage.
-
If you are creating a manual statement, then use either X - Wasted piece, DM will adjust or T - Shortage, DM will adjust and select the Remove spoiled pieces from export checkbox, if you need to export the Mail.dat and have these pieces removed.
Export Mail.dat to compressed file: The default is to export as a zipped file, which will save disk space. Deselect checkbox, if you do not want Mail.dats zipped after export.
Export to version: We will show which Mail.dat Specification is currently supported by PostalOne! as the default, if for some reason, you need to export the previous version, click the drop-down and select the version needed. We will only show Mail.dat Specifications supported by PostalOne! to avoid you submitting a file that is no longer supported. If there is a new USPS rate case and rate categories change, then in order to properly reflect postage, you will need to use the current version of the Mail.dat.
Create OCI (for non-PO! full exports only): Unless a logistics Company requests you send the file with the OCI included, do not select this option. When this option is selected, if an OCI file does not exist, then DAT-MAIL will create it.

Once you select this checkbox, click on Export Settings to set what the name of the XML file should contain. Also, set the Filename delimiter and in what order you want the XML sorted. This export can be run from the Mail Schedule View.
The available Filename delimiters can be seen, by clicking the drop-down and they are none, dash, tilde and underscore, as shown below:
To set the order of which the mail will show in the XML, click the drop-down in Select a Sort Order. The available options are Entry, MPU; Entry, Seg; Entry; Entry, Container Grouping Desc. Per the DTAC Mail.dat Specification - Container Grouping Description is a User Defined Grouping - a value that associates multiple containers for the convenience of the mailing facility."1
