Assigning Categories While Using the Merge Utility
The ability to assign job categories is available when using DAT-MAIL’s Merge Mail.dat files utility.
When merging files, you can assign a category for the source file (i.e., Source Category) and the new, merged target file (i.e., Target Category) by selecting the desired category from the drop-down provided.
When merging multiple files, you must be careful that the original files are never presented to PostalOne! to avoid duplicate barcodes reporting on your scorecard (unless doing OCI Copal). The merge utility allows you to change the category of the files you are selecting to merge and assign the file being created to a different job category to avoid this.
Window Book suggests that when files are imported initially, they are assigned a category of Unmerged and then have the merge utility change it to Merged. These categories would be associated with a PostalOne! environment other than PROD. TEM would be a good choice. The file created from the merge would be assigned to the production category and submitted to PostalOne! PROD.
When you import files, set the job filter to Unmergedto avoid seeing jobs you are not planning to merge. In addition, when you use DAT-MAIL to pay postage, you can set the job category filter to Production, which will omit any of the files used as source files in a merge or ones you have not merged.
