Data Exchange - Templates
Clicking Templates, located in the Data Exchange screen, displays the Templates screen. Templates created using the Data Exchange’s Import and Export functions are managed from this screen.
The available templates are displayed based on type; Import Templates and Export Templates, as denoted by the corresponding tab.
Regardless of type, management of all templates includes the ability to Delete templates , Refresh the Templates list , Export template files out of Enterprise Shipper (ES), and Import template files into ES.
More information about these individual functions is further along on this page.
When performing any of the Refresh, Import, or Export functions above, make sure the appropriate template type is selected by clicking the corresponding tab(Import Templates or Export Templates).
Existing Import Templates are listed by Template Name. Additional columns include Carrier Account, Source Type (Delimited, Excel, ODBC Data Source, or Fixed), and the Return Address associated with the template.
Existing Export Templates are listed by Template Name. There is a Destination File column that shows the file path and name of the exported file. Also, the Fields Order column lists the fields to be exported (along with the order they will appear in the file).
Delete Templates
Both individual Import and Export Templates can be deleted from the system. To delete a template, display the appropriate template list be selecting the corresponding tab (Import or Export), highlight the desired template in the list, and click Delete. A Confirm dialog will display. Click OK to close and continue with the deletion.
ES will remove the template.
You cannot delete templates in use. An example of a template ‘in use’ is one that is part of an ODBC Connect Settings. If a user attempts to delete one of these templates, an error dialog will display. Read the error, click OK to close, and abort the deletion process.
Refresh Templates
If an Import or an Export Template is added to the system and does not immediately display in the appropriate template list, click Refresh within the appropriate template list (Import or Export). The screen will update, displaying the recently added template.
Import Templates
A user can import previously exported templates back into ES. To import a template, select the corresponding tab for the appropriate template type (Import or Export) and click Import.
Windows Open screen will display. Navigate to the location where the template.txt file is saved. Select the template file and click Open.
An Alert dialog will display confirming the import was completed successfully. Click OK to close the Alert dialog.
Click Refresh to update the appropriate Templates list. The screen will update, displaying the recently imported template.
If an attempt is made to import an ‘export’ template with the Import Templates tab selected (and visa-versa), an Alert dialog will display. Users will have to close the Alert dialog, select the appropriate template tab, and perform the import again.
Export Templates
Copies of individual templates – Import or Export - can be exported from the system. To export a copy of an existing template, display the appropriate template list by selecting the corresponding tab (Import or Export), select the desired template, and click Export.
A Windows Save As screen will display. Navigate to the desired folder location. Enter a File name for the template and click Save.
An Alert dialog will display confirming the export was completed successfully. Click OK to close the Alert dialog.
A copy of the template is saved to the selected export location.
