Process Manager Plug-In
The Process Manager plug-in runs predefined or custom processes in an automated manner for various Window Book, Inc. software applications like 1-PASS Prep and DAT-MAIL. We will provide an example of a Custom Process below.
The Predefined Process option can be selected and scheduled with minimal configuration, but this is for PPP, which has been sunset and replaced by Enterprise Shipper™.
Custom Processes
To configure a custom process, do the following:
-
Open Scheduler and Stop the Service.
-
Click Process Manager on the left.
The Select Configuration screen will display.
Select the Expert View checkbox and click Next to continue.
-
The Expert View screen will display. Enter a Name specific to the configuration being created and specify when and how often the plug-in’s process will run. Click Next to continue.
In the example below, we set up a profile to run address files through 1PP every Tuesday night to prepare jobs in a commingler's sort scheme.
Window Book does not recommend enabling the function to Run at start-up unless directed by a Window Book Support representative. However, if this option is enabled and the Scheduler is stopped and started for whatever reason, the plug-in will run every time the Scheduler starts regardless of the plug-in’s frequency settings.
Please contact Client Services if interested in utilizing the DAT-MAIL Data Maintenance Utility (MDSuppAssist) to purge and backup data. Professional Services will help set up the utility and the Process Manager.
Below the print screen is an explanation:
Recurs every: The default is Daily; you can change it to Weekly and select the days it should be running. Also, there is the option to run a configuration monthly.
Occurs Once At: If you only want to run the configuration once a day at a set time, you would select the time here.
Occurs Every: The default is 5 minutes and the Starting At 12:00 AM and Ending At 11:59 PM. You can adjust to suit your environment. For example, if you run a nightly backup, you change the Starting At and Ending At to ensure the Scheduler is not running.
End Date and No End Date: The default is No End Date. If you are using this configuration for a specific project and after this time you do not want this configuration to run, you could set an End Date.
Retries Count and Retry Seconds: Unless a Window Book Support Representative asks you to set a retry count and wait (seconds) until it tries again, please do not change.
Run at Startup: Never select this option unless a Window Book Support Representative asks you to do so.
-
The General screen will display. When set up, click Next to continue.
An explanation of each option is shown below the print screen:
Custom Process will already be selected. If not, select it.
Click Browse to locate and select the executable file that runs the customer process. Instead of pointing to an executable in the example above, we use a batch file to launch various steps.
Specify the number of seconds for the Timeout Period (waiting for process to exit). The default is 10 seconds.
-
The Process Start Options screen will display. Click your preferred Process Start Option. And enter the Command Line Arguments relevant to that process. When ready, click Next to continue.
In our example of launching a batch file, a command-line argument is not required. However, if an executable is selected for the Custom Process in the General screen, a command-line argument might be necessary for this screen.
-
The Notification Info screen will appear. Read the message. Click Finish.
If launching a batch file, your batch file must include commands to create a log file to indicate any errors.
-
The Finished screen will display.
If you do not have other plug-ins to set up, click Start the service and the Scheduler can be closed.
