Hardware Configurations
This section provides the hardware configuration requirements and guidelines for server/ stand-alone configurations and workstations.
Window Book terms for servers/stand-alone configurations are:
-
Client-Server Environment (All Window Book, Inc. products and MS SQL are on the same machine).
-
Multi-Server Environment (Window Book, Inc. products and MS SQL are on separate machines, but they connect to the same SQL Server instance).
-
Stand-alone Environment - is a single installation of our software on a PC, server or some other stand-alone device.
For each environment, we list the Minimum and Preferred configurations. The configurations take into account all supported Operating Systems and MS SQL versions.
These are general recommendations. They will not be suitable for every possible Client situation.
For example - We state 8 GB of RAM because that is enough to run DAT-MAIL or any one of our other products. However, that the same machine is likely running another vendor's presort software, plus DM, SQL Server, PWDD, PWC (the MDR Client requires Java), and so on. 8 GB is not enough to do that. Please contact support if you would like advice on your configuration and expected use.
Another example, we suggest 800 GB of disk space and 1 TB of archive/backup space. For lower volume mailers or shippers, this could be quite a bit higher than is needed. However, for someone mailing 6-9 billion pieces of mail per year and processing 200 Mail.dat jobs a day, it might be way too small.
Please call us so we can give you more accurate info based on your situation. It is all but impossible to cover every situation here.
The term "Window Book, Inc. products" includes the MDR Client.
Specific Window Book, Inc. products that differ slightly from here are on the Product Specific Requirements page.
Window Book strongly recommends a dedicated server for Window Book, Inc. products.
Do not install Window Book, Inc. products or MS SQL Server on a Domain Controller. When promotion occurs on a Domain Controller, it removes some of the necessary options and services.
