Important Setup Info
The following are requirements and guidelines for the setup of a server or stand-alone system:
-
Do not install Window Book products or MS SQL Server on a Domain Controller. When products. When promotion occurs on a Domain Controller, it removes some of the necessary options and services.
-
Domain account for the Window Book services to use. All services can use the same account (see list below*).
-
If no domain is available, specify a local system account to use as the service accounts.
-
The service account must have FULL ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS on the server or stand-alone system.
-
The service account must be a member of the Log On as a Service group.
-
The service account must be added to SQL and have FULL CONTROL in SQL.
For important information about SQL Server permissions and roles, refer to Insufficient Permissions and MS SQL - Database & Backups pages.
-
The server or stand-alone system needs to have Internet access for some functions (see ).
-
If installing MS SQL, make sure to install SQL with Advanced Services, NOT the Core version.
-
If SQL is on a different machine, the service account will need to be added to the SQL server as a Local ADMIN and in SQL as an ADMIN.
-
A network environment1 requires the use of UNC paths. Mapped drives are not supported.
-
In a network environment, all machines must have the correct date and time set. They must be within a minute or two of real-time, or the systems will not talk to each other appropriately.
-
In a network environment, the 'WB' folder will need to be shared over the network.
-
Window Book recommends a Local Area Network (LAN) for the use of Window Book software. We do not recommend a Wide Area Network (WAN), but if used, Window Book highly recommends using Virtual Clients that the user can access via Remote Desktop for running the software.
-
We recommend virtual hardware to allow memory, CPU and hard drive space to change on the fly.
-
Window Book, Inc. products will run on a Citrix platform, but product coding does not consider the use of Citrix, nor are products tested using a Citrix platform. Technical support for software installed on a Citrix platform is limited; users will need to ask Citrix for help with things that happen due to the platform setup.
-
If you are going to use wbSCAN, the server will need a static IP address and will use port 80.
-
If SQL is on a different server, Window Book will need access to that SQL server.
-
Window Book needs access to the DAT-MAIL application server.
-
Ensure all Windows updates and SQL Server updates are done before installing the software.
-
Local IT staff should be available to support the software install.
-
Window Book strongly recommends a dedicated server for Window Book, Inc. products.
-
Window Book strongly recommends a single dedicated USPS Business Customer Gateway Login for MailDrop Engine, PostalWeb, USPS MDR Client, and YourScore. The account will need access to your CRID, Manage Mailing Activity, Audit Mailing Activity, and e-VS if you are using e-VS. Having a dedicated account will help with lockouts and other issues that have come up in the past with users sharing Business Customer Gateway logins.
Window Book products install the following databases:
-
wbdb (used by .Net-based products)
-
wbdbcla (used by Clarion-based products)
-
wbes (used by Enterprise Shipper)
*Window Book uses Windows Services to control its programs and data. The following services may install on your system:
-
"Window Book Dat-Mail Database" service (runs DAT-MAIL)
-
"Window Book wbSCAN service" (runs DAT-MAIL wbSCAN)
-
"Window Book DM Import Daemon Service" (runs AWAM)
-
"Window Book PostalWeb Connector" service (runs PWC)
-
"Window Book Scheduler" service (WBAS service runs Auto Postal Data Updates, Splitter, Merger, AWAM Rules Engine, and other plug-ins)
Additional Requirements for Submitting Files to PostalOne!!
The File Transfer software (Manual mode) uses HTTP / HTTPS protocol to communicate through ports 80 and 443. The destination address is mdx.usps.com which corresponds to a virtual IP accessible to the internet and redirects to servers to a USPS secure enclave in a data center in Eagan, MN. If firewall settings prevent HTTP / HTTPS communication through ports 80 and 443, reconfigure the firewall to allow this traffic. Port 443 is the standard port for HTTPS communication. The PostalOne! Mail.dat Client software is configurable to work through a proxy server when needed.2
Refer to URLs & Ports for additional information.
